How to NL

How to go to/from/within The Netherlands

This website 'How to NL' is about some of the more common ways of travelling to/from/within The Netherlands. (In the future, perhaps there will be pages on ways of doing other things in the Netherlands.)

If you just want to know how to get from A to B within the Netherlands by public transport, a handy website is 9292.nl (app: Google Play, Apple App Store). Another journey planner is the NS reisplanner Xtra app (Google Play, Apple App Store). The government website vanAnaarBeter.nl gives information about roadworks, and many links on the various ways of travelling within the Nethelands.

I try to describe what I know, and provide links to official sources of information as much as possible. However, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information that I or they provide. Information can easily go out of date; it is wise to check various sources.

The pages that has to do with rail travel now have new home: Benelux by train.

I am not a travel agency. Please don't ask me questions like 'how can I cancel my train ticket from Schiphol to London', or 'how can I travel from Nijmegen to Ittoqqortoormiit by boat', or 'where can I take my horse for hoof trimming in the Netherlands'. You can do your searchs on the internet, or for public transport, contact the public transport provider. (I am very helpful in general; but I cannot guarantee you an answer.)

The emergency number in European Netherlands is 112. (Methods for deaf/less-hearing people; read this now before you need it.) 112 is also valid in other countries of the European Union. (GSM phones from other countries might also recognise the common emergency telephone numbers in other countries, and then redirect that to 112 if you are in European countries. But do not rely on that.)

The emergency number in Caribbean Netherlands is 911.

Currently, the pages are quite text-heavy; I will endeavour to put more diagrams and photos amongst the texts.

The following is the structure of the pages within this website. Please click one of the following links.
